The black sheep among the St. Andrews Links Trust courses, the Castle Course looks, feels, and plays very differently than the older courses in town. Set upon a cliff overlooking St. Andrews, The Castle splits opinions. Beautiful from tee to green, the setting and views are fantastic. The Castle’s greens frustrate many - as the Scottish say, they’re a bit Mickey Mouse. Having said that, several in the group compared the course to Chambers Bay and Whistling Straits.
I would definitely play The Castle again. It is an excellent change of pace and asks some really different questions compared to many of the courses in and around St. Andrews. Stick around for lunch; Rock and Spindle’s fish and chips w/ mushy peas was the best thing I ate while in Scotland.
