The site of an old dairy farm, Farmstead Golf & Country Club, is laid out over 270+ acres of rolling farmland featuring several scenic ponds and streams. The converted dairy farm, which now serves as the clubhouse, was purchased by Byron Phoebus in 1961, who then designed and built his own golf course to ensure he always had a place to play. The Phoebus family still owns and manages the course, keeping it a part of their heritage.
Located in Sussex County, Farmstead is a 27-hole course consisting of three 9-hole loops — Lakeview, Clubview & Valleyview. The original 9-holes, Clubview, opened in 1963 and cost golfers $1.50 a round. Today, the 9-9-9 layout offers enough variety between the three (aesthetically and playing style) to keep things interesting, all while sharing the same DNA. Besides adding variety for members, the layout helps to keep the golf course playing swiftly on the weekends.
